We provide tailored tuition designed to match your individual ability and help you develop your own style. Our teaching is rooted in the expert tuition of the great Percy Stanbury, but we draw on the latest sports instruction techniques to suit every shot, whether your interest is in game or clays.

Start with a one hour individual lesson with one of our experienced instructors. Learn about safety and etiquette, the correct gun mount and the right technique from the outset.

Learning with WLSS

Founded in 1901 by the Richmond-Watson family, our renowned team of instructors have taught many generations to both game and clay shoot. We offer One Hour, Two Hour Lessons and Courses for both Ladies and Gentlemen.

Lessons can be booked from Monday to Saturday from 8.00am to 6.00pm according to the season. For the Ladies, we offer a specially designed Ladies Course, which is now recognised as the very best way to get one started. Designed specifically to be flexible in today’s busy world.

Young Shots

We offer individual One Hour or Group Lessons for boys and girls aged 10 to 17 years. They will be taught by one of our expert instructors, the essentials needed to be a good and safe shot. Whether they are shooting for their School or going on a game shoot with their family or friends. Our instructors can help them to progress to the necessary level.

Rigby Rifle Range

We are delighted to introduce the Rigby Rifle Range at West London Shooting School. We have built a state-of-the-art range that offers a five-lane 100m range with running boar setup, together with an adjacent two-lane 200m range, and is the first of its kind in the London area.

Gun Fitting

We cannot over-emphasise the importance of a good gun-fit. The correct relationship between eye and muzzle; consideration of eyesight and build; consistently correct gun mounting – all these mean that the gun will work for you and not against you. With a long history of gun-fitting we boast the biggest collection of tryguns in the world which allows us to fit shotguns to rifles.

Sporting Clay Course

The Sporting Clay Course has had a major re-design with targets which shooters of all abilities will enjoy. There is a standard range of fur and feather including a simulated pair of rabbits that will entice and frustrate all at once.

Our Instructors

Julian Watson

Julian has been a professional shooting instructor for over 12 years having worked for some of the best known names in the shooting industry. He joined the West London Shooting School team in September 2023 as a full time instructor teaching both rifle and shot gun, he is also one of our gun-fitters. Julian shoots both clays and game and regularly stalks around the country. You will often find him out training or shooting over his favourite English Springer Spaniel. 

Paul Whitton

Paul is an experienced game and clay shot, having been brought up in a shooting family. He is passionate about the countryside having worked in agriculture for a large part of his life. Over the years he has shot game in the UK, Denmark & Spain and is also an experienced grouse shot. Now retired from farming after 35 years, Paul is keen to share and pass on his passion for shooting. APSI qualified and a competitive clay shot he has a wealth of knowledge on both shooting and etiquette in the field.
 

Chris Castle

Chris has a wide range of game shooting experience from driven boar to dove shooting in Argentina to plains game in Africa. He is no novice to clay shooting, having shot on his fathers clay ground since he was 16. He is known for his sense of humour and relaxed style of coaching which has kept him with regular customers.

Mickey Rouse

One of the best clay-shots ever and unbeatable in his day. A lightning-quick style of shooting has led to numerous wins including the World, British and English championships.  He has been teaching at West London for over 10 years and he is an accomplished at teaching game shooting as he is the clays.  He is renowned for his entertaining shooting tricks which demonstrate his skills and accuracy.

Richard Weller

A keen game and competition shot (GB Police Team) he is an experienced instructor in the field and a gun dog enthusiast. In earlier years, Richard was awarded Greater London County Champion in FITASC, Sportrap and Skeet. A frequent host of corporate parties as well as taking individual lessons.

Paul Gendall

Paul has a background as a professional deer manager and ghillie on one of the royal estates and consequently is both DSC 1 and 2 qualified. He is an outstanding shotgun and rifle shooter, Paul has also trained many gun dogs, both for himself and others. He is also a APSI trained instructor.

Mark Heath

Mark has worked at the school since 2010 and leads the team with roles as head instructor and general manager. As one of our main gunfitters for the shooting school, he is in demand from all of the major manufacturers both UK based and international brands. He started shooting at the age of 12 and went on to be a regular member of the England and also Great Britain police teams. A keen game, clay and rifle shot, he enjoys all forms of shooting but particularly grouse over pointers. Also a gun dog enthusiast his two dogs are normally resident in the reception at the shooting school.
